Promising 2 year old colt New Day Rising by Fastnet Rock ran a super race on Saturday in the Darley Stakes when a fine second to Tickets.  The horse suffered quite a bit of interference in the run on the turn and into the straight but nothing hit the line better - indicating that he is looking for 1400m.  This highly promising colt's next start will be the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m.  He is still a big baby and still learining what racing is all about but has a lot of raw potential and we look forward to his next start.

Common Objective ran a tough second in the Manion Cup on Saturday over 2400m.  This son of Redoute's Choice is a young emerging stayer and did all the bullocking work early when leading and faught on to be just beaten by the more seasoned Enzedex Eagle.  His next start will be in the Chairmans Hcp at Randwick in two weeks time over 2600m and then he will go onto the Sydney Cup.

Quality mare Gamble Me returned to racing on Saturday with a slashing win in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill.  Breaking cleanly from the gates she had a beautiful race in transit and traveled second behind the leader Belong to Many then peeled off her heels at the top of the straight to hit the line very strongly winning by just over a lengh.  Gamble Me has developed a bad habit in the past of missing the start and becoming quite fractious in the gates - full credit must go to the staff at Gai's stables for working daily on this filly in the gates.  She looked fantastic on Saturday, probably the strongest I have ever seen her, she traveled accordingly  and her win was full of merit.  Nash Rawiler was very complimentary of the Mare and said on her run on Saturday she is capable of winning a Group 1.

Encosta de Lago 3 year old gelding Personal Glory was disappointing at Newcastle on Saturday in the 1200m maiden.  He was slow to muster speed and Mark Newham was forced to give him a couple around the backside with the whip and he loomed up in the middle of the straight but then his condition gave out.  Gai feels the horse is still lacking in condition and will work on him and return to the provincials in the next couple of weeks.
